What information we collect, use, and why

When you access or use our Services, we collect and process information from and about you to provide the Services in a more personalised and relevant way. • Contact information you give us, such as your name and email address, when you send an enquiry or sign up to our newsletter

• Online activity, including the pages and listings you have viewed
• Information about your travel interests and preferences, where you tell us

We do not take bookings or payments, so we never collect card or bank details.

Information uses and purposes

To the extent possible, we want to provide you with relevant content and a tailored experience when you use our Services, and we use information about you to do that, including in the following ways:

• Send your enquiry to the property or operator you chose
• Send our newsletter, when you have asked for it
• Understand which pages and listings are useful, so we can improve the site

Communication

• Pass your enquiry to the property or operator so they can reply to you directly
• Reply to your questions and comments
• Tell you about new escapes, guides and stories, if you are subscribed

Legal compliance

• Resolve disputes or troubleshoot problems
• Prevent fraud, spam and other unlawful activity
• Comply with relevant laws, respond to legal requests, prevent harm, and protect our rights and the rights of other users and third parties

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling to make decisions about you.

Information retention

We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes set out here, unless applicable law requires a longer retention period. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. In addition, we may retain information for the duration of any period necessary to establish, exercise or defend any legal rights.

Enquiries to properties

When you use the enquiry form on a listing, your name, email address and message are forwarded by email to that property so they can reply to you directly. We do not keep a copy of your details or your message. We only record an anonymous count of how many enquiries each listing received, which contains no information about you.

Cookies

Like many websites, Great Escapes uses cookies (small text files saved to your computer) for certain features. They are stored by your internet browser and contain basic information about your internet use. Your browser sends the information from these cookies back to a website every time you revisit it, so it can recognise your Device and improve your experience by, among other things, providing you with personalised content. Cookies allow us to personalise the content of the site for you, and to monitor website traffic. We use cookies to enable the best experience for your device. Some cookies last for the duration of your web session and expire on browser closure, whilst others remember you when you return to the website and will last for more time.

When users visit Great Escapes standard internet log information is collected to quantify the numbers of people visiting different site pages but this data does not personally identify site users.

When you first visit Great Escapes you are asked to accept or reject non-essential cookies. Your choice is remembered on your device, and you can change it whenever you like using the cookie button in the bottom-left corner of any page, or here: manage cookie preferences.

You can also manage cookies through the settings of your internet browser, where you can choose which cookies to accept and reject, and delete cookies already stored.

We may update this Statement in the future. If we believe any changes are material, we will let you know by doing one or more of the following: sending you a communication about the changes, placing a notice on the website and/or posting an updated Statement on the website. We will note at the top of this Statement when it was most recently updated. GDPR

This GDPR Statement applies to persons in the European Economic Area ("EEA"), including those based in the United Kingdom. This GDPR Statement supplements our Statement; however, where the Statement conflicts with the GDPR Statement, the GDPR Statement will prevail as to persons located in the EEA.

Under UK data protection law, we must have a "lawful basis" for collecting and using your personal information. Which lawful basis we rely on may affect your data protection rights which are set out in brief below.

Our lawful bases for collecting or using personal information for service updates or marketing purposes are:

• Consent – we have permission from you after we gave you all the relevant information. All of your data protection rights may apply, except the right to object. To be clear, you do have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
