Community-guided primate walks and birding beside Kibale Forest

Nestled in the shadow of the Rwenzori Mountains on the eastern boundary of Kibale National Park, Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is a community-run biodiversity haven in the Magombe Swamp. Established in 1992 by the Kibale Association For Rural and Environmental Development (KAFRED), this lush swamp corridor acts as an essential wildlife passage for eight primate species, rare sitatungas, and more than 200 species of birds, famously headlined by the vibrant great blue turaco.

Guided by local naturalists, you can follow elevated wooden boardwalks, forest trails and canopy viewing platforms winding through dense papyrus and wetland forests. All tour revenues flow directly back to Bigodi village, having built secondary schools, clean water wells, healthcare facilities and supported local women's weaving collectives.
