Super cool tented camps on Rottnest Island’s Pinky Beach
Discovery Rottnest Island is the first accommodation built on the island in more than 30 years. Its 83 eco-tents sit on raised platforms behind the dunes of Pinky Beach specifically to avoid disturbing them further. The island, known to the Noongar people as Wadjemup, or 'place of spirits', is a sacred site as well as Western Australia's most famous nature reserve.
Tents range from a simple queen-bed standard through to a deluxe ocean side with a double-vanity ensuite, all built from sustainable materials with zip-up canvas windows and ceiling fans.
Quokkas, small, permanently smiling marsupials found almost nowhere else, wander freely around the resort and are known to graze the lawn outside Pinky's Beach Club at sunset. Cycle the island's full network of trails in a long afternoon in search of more of these cute little critters, climb the 1896 Wadjemup Lighthouse for views back to Perth, or walk sections of the 45km Wadjemup Bidi trail that traces the island's history and wildlife. The beaches are spot on too.
