Gre Village Community Homestay

Gre Village Community Homestay is a network of family-run homestays in a Tamang village on the western edge of Nepal's Langtang National Park. Here you'll become part of the family for a short while, cooking dhal bhat together, walking to the fields, listening to folk stories in the evening. The village sits on the Tamang Heritage Trail in central Nepal, a two-to-three-hour walk from Syabru Besi and a natural stop before or after trekking into Langtang National Park. Rooms are simple: a private, lockable room inside a family home, with a shared toilet usually outdoors, and meals cooked from whatever's fresh that day.

Every homestay in Gre pays a share of what guests spend into a shared community fund, which has gone toward clean water systems, better cookstoves and school repairs since the 2015 earthquake destroyed the village. Rebuilding meant carrying cement up steep jungle paths by hand, family by family, and the homestay programme has been central to how Gre has recovered since. Guests can book a single night on a longer trek or come specifically for a day, staying with families like Nima and Dahlia's, whose four daughters help run one of the village's original homestays.
