Georgian Hampshire hotel with 400 acres of meadows and woodland to roam
Heckfield Place is a country house hotel on a 400-acre working farm estate in Hampshire, England, an hour from London. It's the only hotel in the UK with full biodynamic certification for its own market garden. Planting, pruning and harvesting follow the lunar calendar rather than a standard planting schedule, and chemical sprays are banned outright across the 400-acre Georgian estate. There are only forty-five rooms within the restored 1760s manor house and the wider estate, an hour outside London, each finished with natural materials and craftsmanship that echoes the working farm outside the windows.
A micro-dairy, opened in 2020, turns milk from the estate's own Guernsey herd into cream and butter for the kitchen, while saddleback pigs, around 400 chickens and 20 beehives round out a closed-loop system. At peak season the market garden sends 5,000 flower stems a week up to the house, and seven greenhouses keep vegetables coming through the colder months. Celebrity chef Skye Gyngell runs the kitchens across three restaurants, with daily guided tours of the grounds included in every stay.
