Restored oasis on the edge of Ranthambore National Park tiger reserve
Khem Villas is a jungle camp of villas, cottages and tents on the edge of Ranthambhore National Park, in Rajasthan, India. Khem Villas sits on land bought in 1989 on the edge of Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, back when it was mostly barren grassland. Three decades of planting indigenous trees and digging water bodies have turned the 30 acres into one of the greenest patches in the area, now home to jackals, jungle cats, hyenas and crocodiles that wander in from the reserve plus 300-plus species of bird.
Eight cottages and seven tents, built as modern versions of traditional dwellings with thatched roofs and courtyards, sit among the regenerated grassland; charpoys, the netted-string beds found in villages across the country, furnish the outdoor sitting areas. Mornings and evenings are spent on jeep safaris into Ranthambore in search of tigers, with all-vegetarian meals from the property's own organic garden fueling excursions. There's also a spa and yoga most days.
