Treks and cultural tours across Nepal guided by survivors of trafficking
SASANE Sisterhood Trekking and Travel runs treks, momo-making classes, cultural tours and mountain village trips across Nepal, from short walks around Kathmandu and Pokhara to multi-day treks to Everest Base Camp and over the Thorong La pass. Every guide is a woman trained through SASANE's own certification programme, walking trails and leading sessions in the same mountains and cities where they now build their careers. SASANE Sisterhood Trekking is the for-profit arm of Samrakshak Samuha Nepal, a survivor-led NGO founded in 2008 that trains trafficking survivors in paralegal work, English, hospitality and guiding. The trekking company was formed in 2016 specifically to give survivors a further route to sustainable income and financial independence, reducing the risk of re-trafficking. Guests typically leave having heard directly, from their guide, what the training and this work has meant for her life.
