Small group trips into Cambodia mountains, forests and rivers

Most visitors to Cambodia see Angkor, Phnom Penh and little else. SoloLandscapes exists for the rest of it, the sandstone ridges of the Cardamoms, the waterfalls and elephant forests of Mondulkiri, the river islands and the coast, all run as small group trips from Phnom Penh. Weekends head up Aural, the highest mountain in the country, or across Khnang Kroper and Phnom 1500, sleeping in hammocks and village homestays.

Softer days work better for most people, cycling out to Silk Island to meet weavers, walking Phnom Penh modernist architecture, or joining the community run programme at Chi Phat, where former loggers and poachers now guide visitors. Groups stay small, guides and partners come from the communities you are visiting, and itineraries follow Leave No Trace principles. It is honest, unpolished travel, and it is cheap, with day tours from around twenty five dollars and two night mountain trips from about eighty.

November to March is dry and cooler, the best window for trekking. April and May are punishingly hot. June to October is wet, green and best for waterfalls.

Kids

City and island day tours suit families, but the mountain treks involve long climbs, basic camps and are better for teenagers and up.

Accessibility

Trekking routes are steep and rough with no vehicle access. City walks and Silk Island days are much easier going.
