Experience authentic Tharu culture next to wildlife-heavy Chitwan National Park at Tharu Community Lodge.
Experience authentic Tharu culture next to wildlife-heavy Chitwan National Park. Located on the edge of community forest near Chitwan National Park, Tharu Community Lodge is owned and operated by local Tharu people. The lodge was developed as a community tourism initiative to provide income and training opportunities for the surrounding villages. The 15 guest cottages are built from adobe and thatch in the traditional style, with private bathrooms and screened verandas. Guided activities include canoe trips on the Narayani River, birdwatching in the buffer zone, and nature walks in the forest, where sightings may include deer, monkeys, and rare bird species. Guests can also visit local homes, take part in cooking sessions using traditional clay stoves, and watch evening stick dances performed in the lodge courtyard. Stays at the lodge are typically arranged through Tiger Tops, which helped establish the project and continues to support operations through training and marketing.
