Solar-powered lagoon camp in Botswana's private Linyanti reserve
DumaTau means 'roar of the lion' in Setswana, but elephants are what the camp is really known for: it sits between two of the busiest elephant corridors in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, with 45km of frontage along the Linyanti River and Savuti Channel. Eight tented suites, rebuilt in 2020, stand on raised wooden walkways over Osprey Lagoon, each with its own private plunge pool and floor-to-ceiling glass looking straight onto the water. Interiors mix hand-crafted mosaic tile, acacia wood and local textiles with wildlife photography by co-owner Dave Hamman.
The camp runs entirely on solar power. Game drives and boat cruises follow elephant herds wading and spraying each other in the shallows, alongside lion, hyena and African wild dog. Night drives add a chance at leopard and other nocturnal hunters along the lagoon's edge. A spa sits lagoon-side for downtime between activities, and dinners are served at a floating fire pit over the water. DumaTau lies within the 275,000-acre Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, reachable only by light aircraft to the nearby Chobe airstrip.
