45 stilted Khmer villas set in rice paddies a short ride from Angkor Wat

Cycling out from Zannier Phum Baitang means riding straight into rice paddies and sugar-palm groves, with Angkor Wat's temples a 15-minute tuk-tuk ride beyond them. The 45 stilted villas, styled on traditional Khmer wooden houses, are built from salvaged timber with thatched roofs and woven bamboo shutters, 20 of them with a private plunge pool. A network of raised wooden walkways connects the villas to a 100-year-old Cambodian farmhouse turned bar, a 50-metre infinity pool, and the Spa Temple, modelled on Angkor's own architecture.

Zannier is certified by Green Globe for its sustainability practices, and its two restaurants draw on produce from local farms and the resort's own kitchen garden. Guests can join a Buddhist monk's water blessing at the spa, learn to cook Khmer recipes bought fresh from Siem Reap's Old Market, or take a bike tour out to Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake. Lanterns light the wooden walkways after dark, the calls of frogs and birds carrying in from the paddies.
