Experience camel treks and cultural immersion in Kenya’s northern wilderness, supporting community-led conservation and elephant protection

The Milgis Trust is not your typical safari lodge, but a community-based conservation project that offers the opportunity to stay in traditional Samburu huts, explore the stunning landscapes of the 6,000 square kilometre Milgis ecosystem, and learn about the culture and wildlife of this remote and rugged region. Milgis is found in the heart of the Samburu heartlands, northern Kenya, a region that encompasses desert sands, rocky hills, forests and springs. The Milgis River is the lifeline of this ecosystem, supporting a rich diversity of flora and fauna, as well as the nomadic pastoralist communities that have coexisted with nature for centuries. Stay in traditional Samburu manyattas, circular huts made of mud, sticks, and grass, with thatched roofs and colourful fabrics. Each manyatta has a comfortable bed with mosquito netting, a solar-powered light, and a private bathroom with a bucket shower and a composting toilet. Join local scouts on wildlife patrols to track elephants through the seasonal riverbeds, embark on a traditional camel trek into the rugged Ndoto Mountains and visit community-managed water projects and eco-schools.
